BBC Two commissions improvised teen sitcom

BBC Two has commissioned an improvised sitcom for teenagers set behind-the-scenes on a celebrity gossip show.

Popatron, which is scheduled to broadcast at the end of October in an afternoon slot, will feature actual celebrities and bands, with production staff and presenters played by comic actors. Described as being in the style of the successful American comedy The Larry Sanders Show, the show will see staff fighting behind-the-scenes whilst the presenters struggle to keep control.

Zeppotron's Creative Director Ben Caudell comments; "This is a funny and entertaining concept to add to Zeppotron's ever growing portfolio of comedy formats. The process we're using to make the show with improvised dialogue and a young cast means that sometimes we wonder whether we shouldn't just film us trying to make it. But unfortunately we are far too old for BBC Switch's target demographic."

The 6-part series is being made by Zeppotron and has been originally commissioned for the BBC's teen-strand Switch, which is soon to be scrapped.

Zeppotron will also produce a second series of Radio 4 panel game So Wrong It's Right. Hosted by Charlie Brooker, the series is a comic celebration of failure. Whilst the first series was broadcast at 11pm, the second is currently set to go out in the more mainstream 6:30pm slot.
