Acclaimed American humourist Morgan Spurlock dissects the eccentricities of British culture in Morgan Spurlock's New Britannia.
Famed for his multi award-winning 2004 documentary Super Size Me, in which he ate nothing but McDonald's for 30 days, Spurlock has carved out a successful career challenging society's accepted norms and bringing wry humour to taboo subjects.
Unapologetically candid and shamelessly irreverent, no subject is off-limits as Spurlock takes a comedy sideswipe at the behaviours and institutions which make Britain so... British.
Witty, off-beat and deliciously scathing, each episode sees Spurlock scrutinise one particular aspect of British society, with the help of some big-name guests from the worlds of comedy, celebrity and politics, from both sides of the Atlantic.
Amongst the topics covered include the nation's unique concept of class, the intricacies of our view of foreigners, and the distinctly British attitude towards fame. Spurlock travels the length and breadth of the country to discover and experience Britain's traditions, institutions and behaviours first-hand: joining a real life Superhero on patrol, making black pudding in a Bury factory and sampling the newest speed dating craze in Britain's capital.
Elaine Pyke, Head of Sky Atlantic HD said: "Morgan Spurlock is an accomplished filmmaker, social commentator and humourist, and his talent for pinpointing the absurd and bringing humour to the everyday is perfect for New Britannia."
Mark Sammon, Head of Factual Entertainment at Sky, commented: "Witty, intelligent, and with more than a touch of self-awareness, Morgan Spurlock is an amazing talent and I'm delighted to have secured him and his brilliant new series for Sky Atlantic."
Morgan Spurlock added: "Doing an original series in the UK is a dream come true for me. Ever since Super Size Me premiered here in 2004, I have wanted to create a show for British television and I'm thrilled that it's finally happening with Sky Atlantic."
