Sophie stays in London to record the show and turns out to be a natural performer. The audience warm to her. When the pilot show is aired, it's not the instant hit they'd hoped for but with Dennis's passion as producer behind it, Ted Sargent, Head of Comedy, is persuaded to grant the team a series.
While Sophie waits for the series to be written Brian Debenham exploits every TV opportunity and Sophie is a hit on the A Night with Val Doonican show. Her new friend Diane (a cool news journalist) takes her shopping in Carnaby Street and introduces her to trendy nightclubs.
Finally, Sophie has found the swinging sixties and is living her life in technicolour. Swept up in the moment, Sophie embarks on an affair with her charming glamorous co-star, Clive. The tabloids love it, but boss Ted Sargent does not. Neither does Dennis - what will this mean for the dynamic of the show?
