Cannon And Ball - The Complete First Series

First series of the classic sketch and stand-up series starring Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball.

Having been given their major TV break on Bruce Forsyth's Big Night in 1978, Oldham welders-turned clubland stars Cannon and Ball went from strength to strength, and this ratings-winning LWT series, launched the following year, consolidated their success and made them household names.

Showcasing their trademark stand-up routines with sketches, spectacular variety entertainment and a wealth of guest stars, the series ran for nine hugely successful years - with a series being recorded every year until 1988 - alongside several Easter and Christmas specials.

This release contains all the shows screened in the first series, with special guests including Irene Handl, June Whitfield, Maureen Lipman, Liza Goddard and Michael Robbins. A major strike by ITV technicians halted transmission for several weeks during the summer of 1979, and this is reflected in the dates given for the shows, which are presented here in transmission order.
