Character guide

Veronica Burton

Played by: Rachael Stirling

Veronica is tall, gorgeous, striking and smart. On paper she has a pretty fantastic life actually: a fabulous apartment, an attractive and successful boyfriend, and a great job writing for the local paper's fashion page.

Her life has been a whirlwind of drinks, parties, shopping, interviews and generally living it up. However, after an accident her body is inhabited by lazy slob Danny... and the contrast couldn't be more obvious.

Danny Reed

Played by: Martin Freeman

Danny is a ball of energy and unfocused anger, who spends his time filling his head with facts about the world's great conspiracies. An outsider and an educational failure, he's become a self-taught encyclopaedia on every crackpot theory going.

Danny is smart and astute, but has never found a real direction for his life, and spends his time abusing customers in the DIY superstore at which he works. He knows he's wasting his talents, but he prefers to blame the world for his ills than do anything constructive.

Following a lightening storm Danny finds himself inhabiting the body of Veronica - something he understandably finds hard to adjust to.

Boy Meets Girl. Jay (Paterson Joseph). Copyright: Granada Productions

Jay

Played by: Paterson Joseph

Jay is Veronica's long term partner and he worships the ground she walks on.

A bit of a metrosexual, Jay can come across needy at times. Work-wise, he's essentially a company man who doesn't like to rock the boat, but his whole world is thrown upside-down by the extraordinary changes that happen to Veronica. Despite her changed personality, Jay sticks with Veronica... but he doesn't know she had an affair with Ali.

Boy Meets Girl. Siobhan (Tamzin Malleson). Copyright: Granada Productions

Siobhan

Played by: Tamzin Malleson

Siobhan is Veronica's best friend. She's also not an intellectual heavyweight and likes to moan about her life, her chauvinist partner (or ex-partner as he is now) and her frustrating job in an old-fashioned law firm... but never does anything about these problems.

A bit of a snob, she loves the trappings of wealth but is strangely dissatisfied.

Boy Meets Girl. Ali (James Lance). Copyright: Granada Productions

Ali

Played by: James Lance

Ali is a high flying corporate financier and always one to put himself first. Convinced of his own brilliance and good looks, Ali can't quite work out why his mate Jay ended up with the gorgeous Veronica and he ended up with whinging Siobhan. Which is probably why he ended up initiating an affair with Veronica.

Boy Meets Girl. Fiona (Angela Griffin). Copyright: Granada Productions

Fiona

Played by: Angela Griffin

Fiona works at the same DIY superstore at Danny. Her impoverished background and low life expectations haven't suppressed her spark and quick-wittedness.

She's the girl that Danny's pined for all his life, little realising that she isn't interested in him because of her secretive sexuality. She has never really come out properly or had a serious relationship with a woman... but she is clearly attracted to Veronica.

Boy Meets Girl. Pete (Marshall Lancaster). Copyright: Granada Productions

Pete

Pete is Danny's best mate and fellow DIY superstore employee. Pete's the most loyal of friends you could find. He likes a laugh and doesn't like to think too hard about life, which is unfortunate as what happens to Danny makes him question everything.

Boy Meets Girl. Bill (Peter Wight). Copyright: Granada Productions

Bill

Played by: Peter Wight

Bill is the editor of the large regional newspaper that Veronica writes a column for. He's basically Veronica's boss.

Weary without succumbing totally to cynicism, Bill still has a passion for journalism and is a good, if tough, boss. When Veronica goes off the rails, he has no option but to fire his star writer... but he's more than happy to give her a second chance when it looks like she has straightened herself out.
