Sara Pascoe has written her first fictional book.

New novel Weirdo will be published on 14th September by Faber & Faber.

The comedian has previously written two best-selling factual books mixing elements of biography, biology, anthropology and sociology, Animal: The Autobiography of a Female Body and Sex Power Money.

Weirdo, which is now available to pre-order in hardback, eBook and paperback formats, follows a young woman called Sophie and her familial and romantic entanglements.

Blurb explains: "Sophie is not long back from her trip to Sydney, where she 'accidentally' bumped into Chris.

"Tonight, Sophie is working in a Moon-Under-the-Water in Essex, about to wrap cutlery, when she turns to find Chris ordering two G&T's from her. Chris has not recognised Sophie.

"Sophie has other things on her mind/to do list:
1) Avoiding debt collection letters - the return flights maxed out one credit card alone.
2) Not contacting her mum, her sister and her sister's new fiancé, James, who is also Sophie's ex.
3) Ignoring texts from Ian, her current boyfriend - although that's not as hard as 1 & 2 as he's quite good at coming up with reasons for them not to have any physical contact.

"And now Chris is back, standing in front of Sophie at the bar. It's a sign. It must be a sign.

"Sophie is alert to messages from whoever is in control. She is also anxious, tired, and about to find out how far she'll go to see if she and the man now back in her life have a future. If only she can work out how to behave like a normal, laid-back person first."

Pre-orders are now open at Amazon and at Waterstones, who are offering signed copies.

Sara Pascoe - Weirdo

By Sara Pascoe

The debut novel from the best-selling and award-winning comedian, writer and actor Sara Pascoe.

"I used to think my Mum could see me through the cat"

Deep in Essex and her own thoughts, Sophie had a feeling something was going to happen and then it did. Chris has entered the pub and re-entered her life after Sophie had finally stopped thinking about him and regretting what she'd done.

Sophie has a chance at creating a new ending and paying off her emotional debts (if not her financial ones). All she has to do is act exactly like a normal, well-adjusted person and not say any of her inner monologue out loud. If she can suppress her light paranoia, pornographic visualisations and pathological lying maybe she'll even end up getting the guy she wants? Then she could dump her boyfriend Ian and try to enjoy Christmas.
