Former TV presenter Philip is using his time frantically writing novels and screenplays, all of which involve a much younger woman, who may or may not be a version of Carmen with whom he is obsessed, regretting that she has abandoned a much older man, who may or may not be a version of Philip.
Meanwhile Philip's old mum has moved in to look after him and ensure he's taking his medication, though he is convinced that it's he who's doing her a favour.
