Plenty of writers and comedians also contribute to the national press, to magazines and to online outlets. Journalistic writing can provide excellent exposure, not to mention extra income, to writers and performers at all levels - as well as giving them an opportunity to improve their writing skills.

Writing for publications often means responding to tight word limits and even tighter deadlines - and provides an excellent mental work-out: forcing writers to hone their ideas, and cut their sentences precisely and efficiently.
