Radio Times review

Hang on - a few weeks ago, Miranda Hart appeared on the show to promote her new comedy-action film Spy, and tonight co-stars Jude Law and Melissa McCarthy show up too. Norton must really like that film. McCarthy became a top Hollywood leading woman after her role in Bridesmaids and has signed on to appear as Tinkerbell in a comedy about Peter Pan characters, which sounds promising. Chris Pratt is also invited, to discuss his role in Jurassic World.

Plus there's music from Florence + the Machine (remember them?) and at the comedy end of the sofa, John Bishop, who at the Baftas described the bearded Norton as looking like the love-child of Father Christmas and Louis Walsh. Harsh.

TV preview: The John Bishop Show, BBC1

These are busy times for television-friendly comedians. Even though Live at the Apollo is taking a break there seem to be more mainstream openings than ever for those that fancy a bit of exposure. ITV1 has Sunday Night at the Palladium and now BBC One has jumped in a day earlier with The John Bishop Show.

Comedian pictured with stars revealed to be paedophile

A stand-up comic has been pictured with comedy stars including Phill Jupitus and John Bishop is a convicted paedophile who filmed himself spanking a 15-year-old boy. Russell Haynes, 42, whose Instagram account shows him with a host of stars, spent two years behind bars for indecent assault and possession of hundreds of paedophile pictures.

Damien Gayle, Mail on Sunday, 1st February 2015

One of the more likable of the arena comedians, John Bishop is all about being down to earth. Still, he isn't afraid of a big production number when the occasion demands it, and with this festive show, that's precisely what he delivers. Never mind the obligatory pop stars (George Ezra; Ella Henderson). Forget about the mainstream support acts (Jack Whitehall and Jason Byrne). Bishop doesn't just do a set, he also performs a routine with 16 members of the dance troupe the Tiller Girls.

John Bishop review

This comedian is not at his best when in a forced humour situation. In fact, early on in his act Bishop admits that jokes aren't really his thing but he hopes that amusing things happen to him so he can pass the stories on to the fans. On this showing it's working.
