Slowly emerging from behind the achievements of a once well known humorist and columnist, Paul Jennings, Hil began to forge his own comedy career in his early 40's.

Early on, the now defunct Channel 4 4laughs platform awarded him a cash prize for a sketch competition as 'Able2' with the lovely Rosemary Pooley (a.k.a.Loopey)

Soon afterwards, upon receipt of a first, holy cheque for £4.26 for some material in Newsrevue, he decided to keep going. The satisfaction of then hearing an audience laugh at something penned by himself was too exhilarating to resist and more material was submitted and used in both London and Edinburgh festival Newsrevue and Brighton's Treason Show.

After a while, topical comedy and trawling the news for a funny angle got a bit exhausting and he took a break to explore writing something for himself. This included a short film script which was later to be used by Film Suffolk in their first feature length film, With Love From Suffolk.

A piano tuner by trade and having grown up surrounded by music and classic radio shows, it was only natural that audio comedy should become a focus. In the early 2000's he began experimenting with sketch podcasting under the pseudonym 'Midgetgems' and then teamed up with a fellow Channel 4 4laughs forum contributor, Scott Graham (a.k.a.Scottthedot) , to produce a podcast called Your Home May Be At Risk (YHMBAR).

The covid lockdowns allowed some time to write and record material for local radio and a new podcast (Brilcast) came about after a chance meeting with another former 4laughs contributor, Brian Heyes (a.k.a.Brian the Can) on the set of With Love From Suffolk. More episodes are in the pipeline.

Collaborative projects with various others are dotted around YouTube and he can usually be found recording something or other when not shouting at some radio play for not taking the opportunity to transport the listener somewhere more interesting.

Hil is also a survivor of child abuse by a teacher at a vile Catholic school so there may well be a satirical edge to his next big project.
