Frost: Coalition government killing political satire

Political satire is in danger of dying out under the Coalition government because there are no characters worth lampooning, Sir David Frost has warned.

Radio 2 is the home of the every-day game show: Pull the Other One! (Thursday and Saturdays) is the latest: a radio happening (oh dear), in which a trio of comics, led by David Frost (oh dear, oh dear) make jokes about the bizarre stories that crop up in the newspapers - things like the man who finds his car filled up with concrete, or the fellow emerging trouserless from an Irish train. Predictably, the real explanations [...] were more amusing than the jokes that those poor old quick-fire jokesmiths could dream up.

And the second mystery was: how does a sketch as old as the one about the innumerate accountant get passed for performance even on the drear Frost's Weekly (BBC1)? That number has got a beard on it like a Chinese warlord. Has somebody pinched it and flogged it, or has the guy who originally wrote it succeeded in flogging it twice?

It was much of a mixture-as-before with lots of little jokes, some littler than others and sketches and posh padding from good singers and fancy photography.
