Sky Atlantic has announced that it has recommissioned its extremely surreal comedy series This Is Jinsy for an 8-part second series.

Produced by The Welded Tandem Picture Company and written by newcomers Chris Bran and Justin Chubb, the eight new episodes will be made next year for broadcast in 2013.

A bizarre mix of sitcom, sketches and musical interludes, the first series was swamped with top-name guest stars in somewhat unfamiliar guises, such as David Tennant, Harry Hill, Catherine Tate, Jennifer Saunders, Jane Horrocks, Simon Callow and Peter Serafinowicz.

The second series will head back to the island to find Maven (Chubb) and Sporall (Bran) with a host of new characters, some returning favourites and plenty of songs in the finest Jinsy tradition.

Lucy Lumsden, Head of Comedy for the satellite broadcaster said: "I can't wait to travel back to the wonderful island of Jinsy for another series of insanely brilliant comedy. Chris and Justin's creation is the perfect fit for Sky Atlantic and its wealth of unique story-telling."

Executive Producer Chris Carey and Producer James Dean of The Welded Tandem Picture Company added: "We are thrilled that Sky Comedy is bringing This Is Jinsy back to Sky Atlantic. Series 2 will be bigger, better and funnier. More songs, the return of our titanic tag team of director Matt Lipsey and editor Charlie Phillips, but most importantly another opportunity for Chris and Justin to put on wigs and generally tit around with stuffed animals."

The series was born out of a BBC Three pilot commissioned by Lumsden when she was Head of Comedy for the corporation. Unwanted by the BBC, Lumsden commissioned a series from the pair shortly after arriving at Sky.
