BBC 1 have announced they are to film a sitcom pilot called "Great News" next month. The comedy will be set in the sleepy offices of Stowebridge Times, a local Wiltshire newspaper. The plot, which comes from the team behind 'People Like Us', will revolve around "six hapless journalists who are by turn competitive, ambitious, incompetent and lazy".

The pilot will star Laura Solon (the Perrier winning standup comedian); Daisy Haggard (Man Stroke Woman) and Kevin McNally (Life of Mars).

We have to say that this pilot sounds suspiciously similar to the 2005 ITV sitcom Dead Man Weds which starred Dave Spikey and Johnny Vegas as two local newspaper reporters who worked from a small rural newspaper office.
