It is being reported today that the 32nd Carry On film, which has gone under the working title of Carry On London, may be in cinemas by the end of 2008, with a final script having just been signed off.

The film, for which planning began in 2003, has been dogged with problems throughout post-production. It is expected to focus on a limousine company, transporting numerous celebrities to a fictional film awards ceremony in London - the Herberts - but has had a number of setbacks including the proposed star, Shaun Williamson (Extras, EastEnders), pulling out after the producer was replaced in 2004. An official launch party even took place in the House of Commons, but little has happened since. It has also been reported that Barbara Windsor, who starred in nine of the original films, has refused to have anything to do with Carry On London - whether she will rethink her position given the new script remains to be seen. Rumours have also circulated that Carry On veteran Jim Dale, who starred in 11 of the 31 Carry Ons and now lives and works in the US, will play a part in the new production.

However, since news of the final script's approval broke, a spokeswoman for the film has confirmed that sets for the production were made in 2007. For fans of the series, this can only be good news.
