Guy Jenkin, co-writer of Drop the Dead Donkey has been commissioned to write a 90-minute sitcom pilot for ITV.

Bike Squad, which is about a group of policeman on bicycles, is to be made by Tiger Aspect and shot later in the year. If successful, it could be given a full series. It is believed that Mark Addy, who recently appeared in Bonkers, will star.

In an interview with The Guardian newspaper Jenkin said: "It is about policemen who are shunted off to this squad because basically they are not very good as policemen."

This is the latest in a run of comedy programmes commission by ITV's director of comedy and entertainment Paul Jackson. Other programmes commissioned by Jackson have included Benidorm, Al Murray's Happy Hour, The Dame Edna Treatment and Get A Grip. He also moved Harry Hill's TV Burp to a more high profile slot.
