Lorna Rose Treen wins at Funny Women Awards 2022

Lorna Rose Treen has won two prizes at the Funny Women Awards 2022.

The character comedian, writer and improviser from Birmingham triumphed in the Stage Award section, playing a chain-smoking femme fatale.

She was also selected as the winner in the Comedy Shorts category, in which she has submitted My Entertainment Badge, a video in which she played a Brownie talking through the badges she had earnt.

In the Stage Award, the judges named Marjolein Robertson in second place, with Jessie Nixon third.

The live final, which took place at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London last night (29th September), also featured Anshita Koul, Fathiya Saleh, Julia Stenton, Kate Martin, Leah Davis, Sharlin Jahan and Tatty MacLeod. Previous winner Thanyia Moore hosted, and the night featured a headline set from last year's winner Lara Ricote.

Writing on social media, Treen said: "What a magical dream!!!! Thank you so much to everyone at the awards yesterday, who voted and laughed, the incredible Lynne Parker and her amazing Funny Women team, the hilarious Thanyia Moore and hilarious Lara Ricote, my pals n family watching at home and in the Bloomsbury, everyone that endured mine and my mate Will's duet of Devil Woman (Cliff Richard) last night [at the after party karaoke], and gorgeous beautiful idiot Jonathan Oldfield tysm ilysm. Such an honour to be part of this incredible cohort."

Also featured in the Comedy Shorts category were Creative Writing 2.0 by Lorelei Mathias and New Mum's New Toy by Sarah Grant and Katrina Allen.

The top three in the Comedy Writing Award, the category sponsored by Sky Studios, were Beth's Din by Ellie Silver, Wasteland by Nicki Lucas and - the winner - Magical Extinction by Ruby Carr.

TikTok comedian Chanel Williams triumphed in the Content Creator Award. Voted for by the public and run in conjunction with Heat magazine, the category focuses on social media performers, and is looking for "new voices that might otherwise be overlooked by mainstream networks". Christiana Brockbank (as Anne Crowther), Kate Harding (Bluebroke), Coco Sarel, Jane Postlethwaite, Katerina Robinson, Martha MacDonald, Mrs Smith Says It, Nikola McMurtrie, Quirks & Foibles, Rants And Big Pants, Rosie Holt, Sooz Kempner, Stacey Annor, Sugarcoated Sisters and Thenjiwe Moseley were also shortlisted.

Meanwhile the Funny Women Comedy Industry Award was created "to recognise the women amongst our oft unsung heroes of comedy - the gag, sketch and additional material writers, and the producers, developers and creators who are at the forefront of television, radio and digital entertainment." This year's top three were Amy Annette, Anna Leong Brophy and Hannah George, with Annette selected as the winner.
