Larry Dean has been named Bath Comedy Festival's 2013 New Act of the Year.

The Glaswegian comedian started his stand-up career in 2008 and now works in comedy full time. He has previously appeared at the Manchester Comedy Festival, and in 2011 performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Bath Comedy Festival's New Act of the Year competition runs through the week of the festival, with five heats taking in 35 up-and-coming comedians.

Dean was crowned the winner at the final, which took place at Bath Cricket Club on Saturday 6th April.

The judges deliberating over the decision were comedy commissioner Graham Smith, TV and radio producer Alan Nixon, BBC Cardiff's Katy Trevethan and Mirth Control club booker Geoff Whiting.

Character comedian Garrett Millerick was awarded second place, with Nico Yearwood and Jon Wagstaffe coming in joint third place.

Also taking part in the final were Bobby Scott Freeman, Gary Tro, Zahra Barri, Tash Bartlett and Sheraz Yousaf.

The Bath Comedy Festival was founded in 2008, and this year's festival saw performances from the likes of Henning Wehn, Simon Evans, Mitch Benn, Tony Law and Simon Munnery.

Bath's new act competition, organised by Mirth Control, has been running since 2009. The previous winners are Harriet Kemsley (2012), Matt Richardson (2011), Mickey Sharma (2010) and Joe Lycett (2009).
