Tobias Bacon died of love in 1618. Join him on the 400th anniversary of his death as he finds out how. This piece of new writing by David William Hughes combines comedy, historical research and authentic performances of Renaissance music. With the help of the audience, David plays Tobias and several of his lovers, all whilst singing and playing the lute, in a one-man musical featuring genuine Elizabethan songs of sadness, satire and seduction. Tobias Bacon died of Love in 1618.
Join him on the 400th anniversary of his death as he finds out how.
Tobias Bacon ~ drinker, smoker, tights-wearer, and lover ~ recounts his life story in this historical musical comedy based on genuine Renaissance songs. How exactly is it possible to die of Love? Why did Tobias not make it to heaven like his father? And what, exactly, is to be made of this new-fangled fashion of smoking tobacco?
This brand new solo show is unique in its combination of comedy and authentic performances of Renaissance music. With the help of the audience, David William Hughes plays Tobias, and several of his lovers, all whilst singing and playing the lute in a one-man musical featuring Elizabethan songs of sadness, satire, and seduction. This show highlights the wit and myriad perspectives that can be found in Renaissance music, and brings this wonderful music to a wider audience, with a deft comic and theatrical touch.

David William Hughes
David William Hughes is a highly accomplished singer, actor, and writer, whose work combines comedy, early music, and historical research to create unique and exciting performances. He has appeared as a soloist throughout the USA and the UK, with ensembles such as the Landmarks Orchestra (Boston, MA) and Floating Tower (Brooklyn, NY). He has previously appeared at the Fringe with the Oxford Imps ('Devastatingly funny' ***** ~ Edfringe Review) and in Racing Minds' And Now For Something Completely Wireless ('Damned funny chaps' **** ~ ThreeWeeks). Elizabethan is his first solo Fringe show.
