Dyer & Whitney: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions

Image shows from L to R: Andrew Dyer, Michelle Whitney

Dyer & Whitney answers 10 questions about their 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show.

Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

We have been together as a duo for 3 years this is our 3rd time at the fringe. We have had lovely audiences, we are not famous, and as yet we have NEVER had an 'official' review which means we can keep our own title of "comedy's best kept secret".

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (but mix them up, keep us guessing!).

Whitney - I had chicken pox in July...
Dyer - I love flyering...
Whitney - We live with our parents... separately, we are not brother and sister

Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.

The best kept secret in comedy! Unique, original, hilarious, character comedy, sketches, songs, quirky, costumes, music, talented duo #comedygold need I say more...

Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

hmmmm, not really. Whitney flyers in her show skirt which makes people think it's a kids show. We tend to find a little chat with those that seem interested works well. We tell them about the show describe a few of the sketches and people do talk to us about all sorts. The most recent was a long discussion on the menopause... this does not feature in our show.

What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?

We wanted to be really healthy this year starting the fringe with an Olympic physique with all the walking here it's like a marathon in disguise.

However our show stretches over lunchtime so we keep missing lunch and grabbing donuts and coffee around 5 o'clock! There is still time to straighten out this routine!

What will you miss most while you're away from home?

Whitney: I'm very conflicted about the Olympic schedule and keep searching for pubs that are showing the sports, I'm doing ok so far and haven't missed too much!

I've also 2 friends who are due to give birth this month but I guess I wouldn't be in the room with them anyway and my thoughts are with them both I can't wait to hear the news

Dyer: I live in Edinburgh so I'm very lucky to be at home but I do miss my sleep as there are just so many great shows to see I have trouble getting home...

Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?

Whitney: I said to myself this year I would walk up to Arthur's seat... there is a day off looming but it does look a very long way I will do my best! I also need my Pina Colada and Aperol Spritz!

Dyer: I live here so for me its more seeing as much as I can, and catching up with friends and family, as well as soon very late nights in some very dark clubs

If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?

We like stuff a little quirky a little out the box - as well as just anything that makes us laugh. So we wouldn't be strict... but we might have to vet you before you joined the line up

Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

I don't think we have made any enemies yet... we actually like bumping in to familiar faces (of people we like) and though we might not remember names, we do remember certain flyer's faces and previous 'your on my patch' standoffs that we wouldn't be as keen to re-visit. It's a long month... let's be kind to each other?

Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?

We have never had a review - but we have had plenty of people come back to our show having seen it before, and much like 'D-REAMS' famous tune 'things can only get better' so this year our show is even more SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALITOPNOTCH! *****

'Dyer and Whitney's Supercalifragilisticexpialisketchshow' is at Underbelly Med Quad at 1:40pm until the 28th August. Listing
