The BBC is to live stream an experimental comedy show from the Edinburgh Festival this Sunday (17th August 2014).

Diane Morgan's Clickbait is billed as exploring 'the future of comedy with a digital dimension'. The show will be performed in front of a live audience at the BBC's Edinburgh Fringe venue, and simultaneously streamed online.

The show, created in collaboration with the art-based website The Space, will involve comedy videos with a digitally innovative angle. Alex Horne, Simon Munnery, David Trent, Kim Noble, Gamarjobat and Red Bastard are the acts selected to showcase their work, with Diane Morgan (pictured) acting as host.

BBC Comedy explains: "Alex Horne is a highly talented comedian who regularly uses technological tricks such as synched voice and sound recordings to enhance and supercharge the comedy in his stand-up shows. For Diane Morgan's Clickbait he has made us an exclusive video, which is sure to amuse and confuse in equal measure.

"Simon Munnery will be introducing us to his Fylm-Makker contraption (consisting of a small video camera and a mirror), which allows him to present his comedy stories, songs and animations in an entirely new way - projected onto a large screen. Sounds a bit like television, but he's pulling the strings.

"Kim Noble's comedy perfectly fits the criteria of digital comedy. Unfortunately he is busy on the 17 August, so he will not be attending the live show.

"Physical comedian Red Bastard likes to cause mischief and mayhem in his live appearances. We have asked him to make a video, but he claims that's not in his line and will be asking for some audience participation. Extra cameras have been ordered.

"David Trent's live show consists of power-point presentations, which he employs to lecture his audience on the absurdities of our popular culture.

"Gamarjobat from Japan will be directing their own multi-camera shoot."

Ruth Mackenzie, Director of The Space, says: "Comedy has always led with new ideas and The Space is delighted to be working with BBC Comedy and BBC Arts to give comedians and audiences the chance to experiment with new ideas for digital comedy - I hope this is just the beginning of partnerships to find innovative digital fun."

Steven Canny, the Executive Producer for BBC Comedy, adds: "It's exciting to be working with The Space on a project that will help to define the term Digital Comedy. It's rare that you're asked to be genuinely experimental and this co-production has given us just that opportunity. The calibre of the comedians taking part reflects the amount of interest in this emerging form. The relationship between The Space and BBC Comedy feels full of potential and we're all hoping we can build on this first digital outing to nurture a fruitful relationship."

Diane Morgan's Clickbait will be streamed live from 9pm until 10pm on Sunday 17 August. After the show, comedy fans will be able to re-watch each comedian's contribution via The Space website and BBC Comedy YouTube channel.
