Why do people say "of" when they mean "have" Page 2

No, because 'pants' is perfectly legitimate when in the context of underpants of the actions of a dog. I can check spellings, and on occasion whole words, but not context.

Why are people watching Eastenders?

I'm afraid it is ingrained upon my soul, having watched it from the age of 5.
I no longer have any choice in the matter, I feel a bit unusual if I miss too many episodes.

from the age have 5 you mean

Laughing out loud

I'm wiv u on that one m8 - standards is always being lowered, especially at the British Legion

yea, innit yo bruv?

Why do people say "have" instead of "of"? Because they're f**king idiots, all have 'em are, the whole lot have 'em!

How many times has that joke been done now?

I couldn't resist, but the first part is true.

No argument there.

This is one of the biggest annoyances in my life.
However, I shan't get into a huge rant, because that may bore you all. Instead, let me give a few examples which make me want to cry...

A sign in a chip shop in Matlock Bath: "Were Glad Your Here"

A twenty foot banner outside a factory outlet during renovations read; "Were Still Open!"

On the windows of far too many clothes and shoe shops: "Mens"

At Melbourne Airport duty free: "Shop Til' You Drop" (Nice try, but no...)

An awning adorned with the product of the shop reads; "Sweet's"

(I could write "(sic)" after every one of these, but that'd be futile.)

What annoys me the most, is that many people don't seem to think it matters, but to me it does because it seems that the human race is getting dumber and dumber.
Surely one of the prerequisites of being a sign-writer would be a knowledge of punctuation, spelling and grammar... surely?!

Sorry, I said I wouldn't rant!

Whilst I liked none of them, that one actually physically made me shudder.

Spelling, not grammar/punctuation.
My colander has words stamped out, to remind me what it can be used for: berries, pasta, greens, peas and ... brocolli.
I get cross every time I use it.
And sign outside trendy bar today: Sandwhiches.
