The Government are too busy pouring our taxes into overseas aid and other such "worthwhile" activities to be bothered about the welfare of its own electorate, military or not. It's just another shameful display of the attitudes of successive administrations, particularly those since 1997 (don't be fooled into thinking this is all Blair here; Brown controlled the purse strings). Mismanagement, over-regulations and general stupidity on ever level. Let the teachers teach, let the doctors and nurses heal people, let the police, er, police, and similarly with the military. It takes the piss (and that's putting it extremely politely and lightly).

As for intervention, it's all well and good to intervene, but to pussy-foot in like we did with Iraq and then act all surprised and defensive when the shit hits the fan is a joke.
