American Comedy News

A place to put news and info about new American comedy shows that are not yet worth their own thread.

Stephen Merchant is making a sitcom pilot for HBO; his first not to include Gervais:

I really like Stephen Merchant, looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Not to go off topic, but it's a shame Channel 4 Friday night comedy no longer exists. Because I'd imagine a Stephen Merchant sitcom fitting right in there. But I'll still look forward to this. He's a very funny man, even if his live show wasn't the best example of this.

Sounds an interesting show. I rate him higher than Gervais so will also be looking forward to checking it out - although I fear the inevitable Americanisation.

Does seem that Merchant being the star of something has been a long time coming. He was often the funniest thing about 'Extras'.

When is Shaun Williamson getting his own American show?

He's the star of Portal 2.

Larry David is working on a movie for HBO and word is we'll see this before we see another series of Curb...

So it's not a thread about Fox News then? Ba-dum.

Looks good. Hope it's shown in the UK some time.

Yeah I have been expecting the very talented Stephen to finally go on and do his own thing, while the Gervais-Merchant partnership has seemingly gone stale (Life's Too Short), and with Ricky doing Derek solo.

In surprising news, Michael J Fox has a new sitcom coming:

Great news. Always liked Fox, Especially his earlier teeny/adventure flicks (Teen Wolf, Back To The Future)...not the later romantic ones. He was also great in Spin City (and of course Family Ties.
