What does R & B mean to you?

When I was young it was stuff like Rolling Stones, Pretty Things, Yardbirds, John Mayall etc. Then Dr Feelgood and Inmates.

Then of course I realised that R & B was really Stax, Atlantic stuff etc.

Nowadays they call that new stuff R & B. How do they define it? What has it got in common?

I want to say something but I can't. Doh.
RnB, in my view, means anything which is derived from the blues like 60s rock and roll. Unfortunately today its applied to a lot of atrocious modern acts from America which I think are not only rubbish but not proper RnB. Today RnB means hip hop without the rapping.

Ditto Adam.

The modern variation is just bad. Really not much else to say, I don't think.

Thritto Adam.

Fortho! I may add to this later.

I just don't know how they can call that new stuff R & B.

What does it stand for now??????????????

Rubbish 'n' bollocks.

Or it should do.

Originally, bands like the Stones were termed Blue Eyed Soul.

* Plus Motown and Soul.

Motown was a bit too "sweet". Blue-eyed soul was more like Daryl Hall and John Oates who I loved. I didn't really know what Oates gave them but when Daryl went solo he didn't get anywhere near as much success (in UK at least).

Oh I could discuss music for hours and hours and hours and hours and hours

RnB

The n stands for and!!!

Rhythm n Bass = RnB (shit)

Rhythm & Blues = R&B (some of the best music ever!)

(In my opinion) ;)

I could be wrong though but that's how I've always thought of it.
