A techie question re: launching vids on websites

To BSG Users with websites.

Can I ask the best way to launch a video on your site?

I've tried my site but when I click on the link it wants to download the file to my PC and then play it from there. Is this just a quirk with my internet access / IE setup?

How do you launch your stuff? Ideally I'd like it to play from the site, like YouTube (but without embedding to that site). I'm using FrontPage (yes, I know, but it's cheap and easy).

Any ideas?

I've been trying to figure this out lately as well. I also use, FrontPage, as you say, cheap and easy, like my women :D

I haven't used frontpage since the 98 version but I thought it had a video embed option in the menu somewhere. Otherwise switch to code view and try this.

I don't know how good it is, just found it on Google but it looks pretty neat.

If you are linking to the video file then it will be up to each individual software browser / player software / preferences as to whether it auto-plays / streams / downloads / whatever... in otherwords you can't guarentee how it'd play.

Embedding YouTube / Google videos is definitely the easiest route. Simply copy the embed code into your source code.

If you don't want the branding you can install your own flash player but you might need an expert's help to do that as it is not that straight forward.

Thanks Mark and Kerry, that site seems simple enough. I'll try it out later.

It can be a right bitch to embed video. But at a quick glance, SP's link looks useful. :)

Woohoo, it worked! Eventually.

That's inspired Leevil, a real work of art. I've never seen a video so brave, dynamic and... what? it really is a test. Oops.

Thank you, I'm thinking about entering it into the film festivals such as Cannes and err the others.

You enter that into a festival and it would be so most modern I think most critic's heads would explode.
