Unless you edit within 15 minutes and there's been no replies. Or something. I forget.

I think the easiest solution is to disallow the original post to be edited once there are replies.

Yer good plan...must admit i did edit one once after people had replied...but that was only cause they were so damn quick and i was so damn slow!

Oh crikey... no, that would be bad. My spelling needs constant attention, for example.

I think it's easy enough to check at the top of a post for an 'edit' flag.

Yes but if it's a looooooooonnnnnnng one you may not have time to read it and just want to see the changes.
