Blair

I trust that I'm not the only one here who is far from sad to hear Blair officially confirming that he'll go? Pity that 27th June is about 10 years too late, but then I suppose you can't have everything.

Which sit-com`s he in?

It's called 'New Labour'... about how a rigidly left-wing, socialist party turned into old Tories overnight...

I'm popping the cork on my bottle of champagne as I type...

I hate Tony Blair as much as the next person but the tthing is that you know once hes gone the back benchers are mostly sound on Labour's side but if the Tories get in then the back benchers will all be wankers so they'll pass alot of bullshit legislation.

Blair's legacy

Smoking Ban
Human Rights Act
Ending section 28
Minimum wage
Kosovo

but also

War in Iraq
Fox Hunt Ban
PPP
Stealth taxes
Lying

I can't help but think this country is rapidly going down the tubes as a result of Mr. Blair being at the controls... but then I'm older and way more cynical than I used to be when the Conservatives were in power. I'm sure they stuffed a few things up too.

They all seem to be as bad as each other these days. Far more worried about 'spin' and what the newspapers have to say. It's a mess, frankly.

I did like Charlie Brooker's comment on Blair's appearance on Comic Relief here:

His whole career has been a bit of a comedy really.

It is. It really is. More investment in schools and the NHS? Yes. But a lot more middle-managers, regulations and such, and of course not forgetting inflation, so in real terms it's quite a bit less. After all, £52bn of debt can't come from the "record investment" that they continue to harp on about. There may have been improvements, but there have been a hell of a lot of things getting worse to more than counter it.

And yeah, the previous Conservative administrations weren't perfect (what is?), but at least they had the common human decency to resign when they were caught out.

Vote Green (Not Scritti Politti)

Bloody hell, there's a random reference. : )

I don't want Gordon Brown as boss of the country. :( He's booring.

I want Boris.

But wasn't his resignation a shock........

I like your thinking!

Am I the only one who comes to a comedy website hoping I won't be bashed round the head by diatribe? I think this is a great site and forum, and hope it will remain so - and Aaron, I appreciate all the work that you put in to make it work, and I don't expect that everyone should share political viewpoints - but I don't agree with the forum being used for propaganda. I hate Blair, probably for quite different reasons to you, but unless there's a comedy vibe to the thread then I'd rather keep off the politics.
What does everyone else think?

Pol-la-ticks?

At the risk of legal action, I find the man detestable. the fact he has announced June 27 is probably more to do with there's nothing left to f**k up.

Man: Doctor, Doctor Tony Blair sucks

Doctor: Nice theory, lets discuss it in a comedy forum

Man: Isn't that for comedy

Doctor: You don't have to read it

Man: Oh

Well, I understand where you're coming from, but when we first set out to launch the message board/forums/whatever, Mark and I made the conscious decision that we wanted this to be as open a place as possible, and to be as friendly and inclusive as possible, so we run a pretty flexible ship as to what we allow. We strongly believe in free speech, and hate using other such communities where the administrators strictly control what can and can't be said, so we didn't want the BSG community areas to be the same. As a general rule, as long as it's legal, pretty much anything goes.

As for this particular thread, it is in its rightful place; the 'General Discussion' forum, which is filed neatly under the 'Other' category. That should indicate that, as weird and amusing as replies may become at times, the underlying subject matter isn't necessarily going to have anything remotely comical about it.

At the end of the day, not everything is going to be for everyone, so if you feel uncomfortable about a particular thread, then just don't read it.
