Bank robbers, prostitutes, fraudsters all use their limited talents for financial gain too. 
And while her wealth will help her son in some ways (many parents of disabled children would obviously envy this and how it makes life easier) money is not the primary need of a child. A checkout girl may make a far better mother than a rich one.
The weird thing is that she is a naturally very pretty woman, but makes herself look worse. I don't understand all the porn-style poses she does (when not actually posing for porn) - she has got to be one of the least sexy people around. She's even admitted she doesn't have or enjoy sex!
She lets the side down.
