Left-wing or socialist leaning comedians? Page 3

Didn't see that coming. In the words of the blind prostitute.
Plus it's unjust. I was doing wank gags years before coming to Italy.

Apart from Beppe Grillo, who's about as funny as Trump, I've yet to see s single Italian comic with insight. It's always women complaining about their dates or men talking about the last time they knocked one out.

Ascanio Celestini is definitely quite different from what you described though he might also appear to be more 'theater-like' to people used to a variety of US and UK comedic styles and practices. Grillo hasn't done any comedy in ages. You might also look at Paolo Rossi.

Mainstream Italian comedy is indeed absolutely dreadful and unoriginal, usually a combination of overheard bar conversation and, more recently, whatever English language comedic styling has been heralded (with a decades long time lag).

I would dispute that the media in Britain are 'very much of the left.'

The Guardian is the only vaguely left newspaper of note and it represents the right wing of Labour which would place it in the orbit of a conservative party in Germany or Finland for example. On the other hand, consider the Times, the Telegraph, the FT and of course, the Daily Mail, the Daily Express, The Sun, The Daily Star. Even if you were to add the Daily Mirror or Morning Star to that list, it's clear that the center of gravity is obviously right-wing.

You know of course that the Guardian was founded and originally financed by someone who benefitted greatly from the slave trade.

Yep, I do. What relevance do you see that having here though in terms of situating the Guardian as a mildly left paper in the Anglo world today?

Sessions in 2014. "I get so bored with people going, 'UKIP are a bunch of racists.' They're nothing of the kind. Nigel Farage talks more sense than the rest of the politicians put together.

If you can look at that and not see an ideologically conservative actor...

Quite!

Just it's hypocrisy in picking on selected parts of History that needs to be demolished when that's how it was founded itself.

That's not really hypocrisy. What position should they adopt on the issue?

Let's end that discussion right there. It's way off topic. Take it to General Discussion if you want to debate the morality of The Guardian.

Asking if there are any left wing comedians is like going to Crufts and asking for a dog that can bark! They're all champagne socialists, the lot of them, in their millionaire luxury houses, telling 'jokes' to highlight the struggle of the working class. My grandparents were practically Bolsheviks but they'd be turning in their graves if they saw the likes of Eddie Izzard trying to represent the Labour Party and the working classes.

The wouldn't agree with his choice of dresses ?

Champagne socialists.
Definition:
i.e. wealthy people who actually give a toss about the less fortunate in society and who in some cases e.g. Eddie Izzard's raises vast sums for charity for them.
As opposed to:
Tories.
Definition.
Anyone rich or poor, who does not give a toss about anyone else other than them self and does or says nothing at all to help anyone.

Champagne Socialists = someone with loads of money who expects everyone but themselves to help the less well off.

It is always very easy to be seen as being generous when you're giving away other people's money.
