A programme about The Kinks on a Spanish radio channel. "You've really got me" must be the best pop song ever.

cant be far off!

I <3 The Kinks.

Me too. Have to admit, when I saw the recent ad about a Kinks musical, I thought it was a bit of a shame to do that to their legacy, though I'm sure Ray will do a great job.

How long till there's a Sex Pistols musical running in the West End/on tour, or one about the Libertines? :|

Even as a fan, I was surprised how good that album is. Also surprised/delighted to snap it up for a couple of quid in one of those discount bookshops/stationery shops a good few years ago.

Bit hit 'n' miss innit? Turn's great - Hey Now's... average - Working Overtime's pooh. While I used to be a huge fan of New Order they always had trouble making consistent albums. Technique's their best, but even that gets a little samey around the middle of the second half. I would also like to nominate Gillian Gilbert for least charismatic woman in pop music. Did you know that if you count the number of times she brushes her fringe from her forehead at the end of the 'World in Motion' vid - you need a f**king hobby?

I thought it sounded a good idea. I thought it had been and gone, though, hadn't it?

Sunny Afternoon, Kinks frontman Ray Davies' musical about his legendary band, is transferring to the West End following its successful, critically-acclaimed run at the Hampstead Theatre. It will open at the Harold Pinter Theatre on 4 October.

It's packed with Kinks hits, but by telling the volatile true story of the Kinks' rise to fame and including the songs in a way that makes valid dramatic sense, rather than building an ersatz new narrative around them, the show is rather more than just a jukebox musical / tribute.

Sounds like at least it's got some ambition and edge; but I'm not crazy about the songs being played/sung by actors/other musicians.

Good time to post some Kinks covers:

Kate Rusby - Village Green Preservation Society

Kirsty MacColl - Days

Now this idea I like!
I worked out why Andrew Lloyd Webber's so full of shit. Can't get Ben Elton's tongue outa his butthole.

The first Gomez album.

Who 'member dem?

Sure - they've had 'Wicked', why not 'Rotten & Vicious'?

Gomez..

They were a Manc band weren't they?

Well I remember this song and it was about Manchester anyway

Once upon a time, not too long ago, we took a day out in Manchester
We all fall down, there's not enough hours in our day
Played a bit of football, fell in to the union, barged our way to the toilet
With the Kung Fu king, there's not enough hours in our day
