Plucky plumber Sid South has many things distracting him from his work: mainly a string of beautiful women, from girls he's picked up to lonely housewives calling for a plumber under false pretences.
Getting out of bed and into work on time is not his only concern, however. With gambling debts mounting and six weeks' unpaid rent, Sid's facing very real danger, both to what bed he'll actually sleep in, and the solidity of his bones!
Tipped off by bookies' goon Blackie and his sidekick Strooper, Sid finds his way to the office of Dodger Harris, a man keen to keep his own fingers clean but who makes a business from matching the right man to the right job...
Between a loo seat, a jewellery shop, a Picasso and a tennis club, Sid finds himself in a series of scrapes as he attempts to pull together enough cash to pay off both his bookie - to the tune of £1,000 in three days - and his landlord, before he's evicted.
