Junkie Girl by Walter Becker

What about Bob?

"An unalloyed pleasure"

"A tour de force of restrained genius"

"Dylan does Sinatra his way and, for the record, it works"

Is it? Could it be? Does it really?

What about Bob?

Sooner or later, his new record will be to my collection. As always.

:D

Could you get the bootleg of this one please and then send it to me. With its dodgy rough voice, strange timing, a dubious "big event" celebrity aura and probably, in actuality, miming this still manages to be so extraordinarily moving that I recall being rather tearful when it was on the TV. It is not my favourite Bob song but it is my favourite Bob hymn. Was he ever more effective so pared down? Anyhow, I also love the orchestration, especially in the faces if you follow me. They are zen and make for a wonderful juxtaposition.

I didn't know Billy Connolly is a conductor. :D

Only in the East where he is the Big Yin and Yang.

Just to clarify, when I said pared down, I was referring to the lyric.

It is one of his best shorter lyrics. Bob's. Not Bill's.

One of my favourite early 00s lo-fi indie bands.

Like. I have all of the Jam albums, most of the Style Council ones and probably at least half a dozen of PW's solo ones. That's from "Wild Wood" which is my favourite of the latter and quite a lot better in my view than successor "Stanley Road" which probably sold more. "Wild Wood" aside, my pick of the bunch is "Country":-

Just picked up a boxset of Weller's first 5 albums from my library, so revisiting "Wild Wood" which is better than I remember - though I liked it at the time too.

Got more range, and light & shade than "Stanley Road", but I personally think "Stanley Road" is his masterpiece. It's a bit meat & potatoes conventional Rock, but does it so brilliantly that it doesn't matter.

Marlena Shaw- California Soul- there is a god

Yes.

That's by far and away the definitive version even if Tammi Terrell teamed up with Marvin Gaye to do it.

It soars.

Just noted/been reminded that Charles Stepney was the arranger. He never put a foot wrong in my book.
