Scrapper director Charlotte Regan creates crime family series for BBC
- BBC comedy drama series Mint will follow the kids, the mum and the grandma in a crime family

The BBC has commissioned Mint, "a darkly comic and unconventional drama about what it means to be part of a crime family", from writer and filmmaker Charlotte Regan who garnered critical acclaim for her recent BAFTA-nominated film Scrapper.
The BBC explains: "This eight-part series, from producers Fearless Minds and House Productions, chooses not to focus on the usual suspects - the godfather or the heavy - preferring instead to follow the kids, the mum and the grandma in the family. It's a story about the love, darkness, humour, heartbreak and plain weirdness of living alongside that world, and what happens when you're forced to take control of it."
Writer and director Charlotte Regan says: "Mint is a world I've been thinking about for such a long time. It's the project that's stuck with me endlessly and I could never get it out of my head. I'm so excited to be making it with the legends at the BBC. I can't wait to meet some magical humans and make some magical TV."
Theo Barrowclough, an executive producer at House Productions, comments: "Charlotte has found another entirely authored and compelling story in Mint, which has all of the humour and emotional truth that audiences love about her work, alongside a darker edge. Tessa, Juliette and I all feel so excited to be bringing Charlotte's first original show to the screen, particularly with the support of our brilliant partners at the BBC and Fearless Minds."

Film Club is one of 12 commissions announced by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama. Other shows include Dear England, an adaptation of the comic play about Gareth Southgate; the romcom Film Club; We Go Again, a show from Bruntwood Playwriting Prize winner Janice Okoh; a drama from Richard Gadd called Lions; an adaptation of conspiracy thriller book The Dream Lands by In My Skin writer Kayleigh Llewellyn; and two more series of police drama Blue Lights.
Lindsay Salt says: "Mint is a crime drama like no other from the brilliant mind of Charlotte Regan and the teams at Fearless Minds and House Productions. Championing the females in the family, it shows a very different side to what a life of crime is really like for those who live alongside that world. I'm over the moon that Charlotte has chosen to work with the BBC on her first TV series."
