Welsh comic Tommy Cooper is to be the subject of a new Channel 4 documentary, it has been announced.

Using brand new information uncovered from the detailed diaries of Cooper's manager, Miff Ferrie, alongside contributions from friends, family, colleagues and fans, The Untold Tommy Cooper seeks to portray both personal and professional sides of the much-missed comedian in a new light.

Producers have also secured broadcast rights to previously unseen and unheard audio and video footage of Cooper and parts of his act.

Mat Steiner, of production company Gogglebox, said: "The discovery of this archive offers up new insights into Cooper's fascinating 35 year relationship with his manager and also how, in latter years, Cooper the family man and Cooper the legendary entertainer actually began to meld into one."

The documentary, a one-off 90-minute special, is expected to broadcast on Channel 4 during the Christmas period.
