CBBC is developing a new comedy panel show themed around the origins of words and phrases.

A Little Bird Told Me will be piloted next month, with double act Mark & Sam as presenters.

The producers say: "Ever wondered why an elderly person is 'no spring chicken'? Or why people talk about trying to 'find a needle in a haystack'? Wonder no longer, children (and adults!) of the UK, because we're about to uncover a treasure trove of stories about where the words and phrases we use all the time, actually come from.

"Hosted by Sam and Mark and featuring two teams of celebrity guests, A Little Bird Told Me is a new comedy panel show that combines hilarious sketches, witty banter and inventive gameplay to uncover the incredible truths behind every day phrases."

Mark Rhodes and Sam Nixon have been a double-act since meeting on Pop Idol in 2003. They have already presented a number of hit CBBC shows together, including the BAFTA-winning Sam & Mark's Big Friday Wind Up.

Should it got to series, A Little Bird Told Me will be CBBC's second current panel show. The channel already airs The Dog Ate My Homework, which has just completed its fourth series.

A Little Bird Told Me will be recorded in front of a live audience at the BBC's MediaCity studio in Salford on Wednesday 8th March. Tickets
