Colonel Blimp never existed, but the prototype for many of Harry Enfield's characters most definitely did, as last night's First on Four (part of C4's seemingly unending celebration of its own cultural achievements) revealed. As we saw, many existed so completely that all Enfield Jr had to do was mimic them in a TV studio and wait for the cheque to arrive, confirming my long-held suspicion that he is, above all things, a comedic magpie.
