Down The 'Gate

The bustle and banter of London's iconic Billingsgate Fish Market provided the backdrop for Reg Varney's first sitcom following his phenomenal success in On The Buses.

In the mid-Seventies, Billingsgate was Europe's premier fish market, its turnover running into the hundreds of tons: a muddle of boxes and barrows, merchants and white-smocked porters with their fish boxes perched precariously on their heads. East Ender Varney plays porter Reg Furnell, whose misadventures down the 'Gate and beyond were charted over two series between 1975 and 1976; Dilys Laye stars as his long-suffering wife, Irene.

Although twelve episodes were made only six now still exist and, for the first time, this set brings together all the remaining episodes of this lesser-known slice of Cockney humour: Series 2, Episodes 1 - 5 and 7.

First released: Monday 8th July 2013

Not in the UK?

Fear not! Many items can still be ordered. Amazon in the UK delivers to many international territories, whilst their Australia, USA and Canada stores also supply many equivalent or imported items.

If you are in the North America, look out for US/Canadian flag icons on popular product listings for direct links.

If you order from a UK store, please note that the UK is in Region 2 and B, respectively, for DVDs and Blu-rays - check your player's compatibility, or look for multi-region products if you are located in another region.

If you are in Australia or New Zealand (DVD Region 4), note that almost all DVDs distributed in the UK by the BBC and 2entertain are encoded for both Region 2 and Region 4. The UK and Australasia are in the same Blu-ray region (B).
