The David Brent Songbook

David Brent: Life On The Road. David Brent (Ricky Gervais)

Ricky Gervais is to publish a new music book to coincide with the release of Life On The Road, the new movie spin-off from The Office.

The David Brent Songbook, which is an official companion product to the film, will feature song introductions written by David Brent, with all music by David Brent arranged for piano, voice and guitar. The book will also include exclusive images of the character.

Life On The Road, which is due to be released in cinemas in August, follows the latest adventures of the office manager, who now works as a rep selling cleaning products (and ladies personal hygiene items) up and down the country. Brent hasn't given up his dream of becoming a rock star - or more specifically, singer/songwriter and lead guitarist for rock band Foregone Conclusion.

Ricky Gervais says: "This book is a dream come true for Brent. At last, the chance to pontificate about his art and divulge the stories behind such classics as Equality Street, Native American, Lady Gypsy, Slough, and Please don't make fun of the Disableds."

He adds: "Even though this is clearly a humour book, the sheet music is real and the songs are insanely catchy and easy to play. Go and get the guitar."

The David Brent Songbook, distributed by Blink Publishing, will be available on the 11th August. Life On The Road will be in UK cinemas from the 19th August.

Gervais has just finished editing the film. Writing on his blog last week, he said: "We did a test screening of Life On The Road for 250 people. The invited audience was purposely made up of 50% fans and 50% non-fans to get a brutally honest representation. After the movie, they were grilled to find out everything they liked, disliked, didn't get, were bored by etc. They loved it! Most, either found it 'Excellent' or 'Very Good' and the love amongst fans of The Office was off the charts. They liked the comedy, the characters, the emotion, and they also loved the songs and said they would buy the album and buy a ticket to see a live show. This is exciting news. Let's hope this is reflected by the rest of the population."

Below is the music video for Equality Street, which was first published by Gervais in 2013:

David Brent Songbook

After leaving Wernham-Hogg, David Brent has been working as a rep selling cleaning (and ladies personal hygiene) products up and down the country, but he hasn't given up his dream of becoming a rock star - or, more specifically, songwriter and lead vocalist for rock band Foregone Conclusion.

The official companion to David Brent's film, this book will have original song introductions written by David Brent, all music by David Brent and exclusive images of David Brent himself. It has been arranged for piano, voice and guitar, so that you too can play the compositions, so go and get your guitar!
