Comedian explains how his Fringe show was axed

Comedian Stephen Carlin has written on his blog about being axed from Peter Buckley Hill's Free Fringe on Monday August 24, towards the end of this year's Edinburgh Festival. Carlin fell foul of the Free Fringe ethos of not being able to do runs on PBH's Free Fringe if also doing a full run at certain other venues.

How to promote an Edinburgh Fringe show

Yesterday ended surreally with (after the show ended) a member of the audience asking marriage advice from Lewis Schaffer. This is a bit like Peter Buckley Hill (the PBH of PBH Free Fringe) giving advice to a comedian on how to develop and handle a PR strategy at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Peter Buckley Hill responds to Cowgatehead questions

On Wednesday I emailed Peter Buckley Hill with some questions about the booking of the Cowgatehead venue at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer. On Thursday I received a reply and I asked if I could publish his answers. He has agreed to this as long as the response was unedited. Here below is our exchange in full

Fringe chaos: Freestival respond

Today Freestival have issued this press release. But they have not yet responded to the key question of whether this is an admission that the Free Fringe does have the rights to stage shows there - and whether they have booked shows into the site without having a written contract with the landlord and licensee. It also addresses claims by PBH (Peter Buckley Hill) that they also had no rights to progamme shows into the St John's venue.

Row over Free Fringe shows, once again

It's fast becoming a Fringe tradition - and today the annual row between rival free Edinburgh show promoters flared up in earnest.

The Dispute centres on the Cowgatehead performance spaces, which newcomers Freestival operated last year. They have again been programming the space for 2015, with many comedy shows now locked into the official programme.

However Free Fringe founder Peter Buckley Hill has today claimed Freestival had no permission to book shows into the venues, saying that his organisation has the deal to programme the space.
