It's what made Britain great, innit?
Johnny Speight's most notorious creation is the refreshing embodiment of every form of political incorrectness, not to mention a fount of gratuitous obscenity (because that's what real life is full of), and he's the character about whom Mary Whitehouse complained more than any other during his years inside the magic rectangle. Which is profoundly ironic, because bigoted Alf was always one of her strongest supporters.
