Daniel Powell was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire and, after spending twenty years as an office drone and secretly pining for his passion from afar, decided to give stand-up comedy a go after the coronavirus pandemic very nearly killed him.

He was selected as a Semi-Finalist in the So You Think You're Funny? contest after only 10 gigs, losing out to eventual overall runner-up Mark Black. Following a year of relentless writing and gigging, he completed a short run at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023 with 'Big Cuck, Little Cuck', and was selected as one of the '11 best jokes of the Fringe' by The Telegraph.

As a writer, he has won numerous screenwriting awards, most notably winning 'Best Short Screenplay' for his script 'Empty Nest' at the Shepperton Screenwriting Festival, the Wiki Screenplay Contest and Feel The Reel International Film Festival.

He was also Longlisted in both 2021 and 2022 for the ShortCom TV Sitcom Writing Contest. He completed a Comedy Writing MA at Falmouth University under course leader Simon Nichols, graduating in 2023.
