Avril Elgar obituary

In the middle of her long association with the Royal Exchange theatre in Manchester, one critic opined that "any production with Avril Elgar contains a nugget of gold". Her pedigree as an actor was apparent on television, too, notably as Yootha Joyce's social-climbing sister, Ethel, in the popular sitcom George And Mildred (1976-1979).
