Fringe launches inquiry into box office problems

Monday 11th August 2008, 4:08am

The Edinburgh Fringe is to launch an independent inquiry into the problems surrounding its box office. The inquiry has been launched after weeks of problems which have left several shows over-booked and some customers without tickets.

Members of the Fringe Board are to meet representatives from all 200 venues across Edinburgh, where the venues will be able to air their problems. During the meeting, details of the inquiry will be announced, and a new temporary general manager for the remaining two weeks of the Fringe will be named.

The Fringe box office has been known to have problems for several years, but this year has been especially bad. Technical issues have resulted in people still waiting for tickets for some shows, while other performances have been double-booked. Printing problems have resulted in the deadline for mailing tickets to be missed too.

The Fringe website has advised ticket holders to check the Fringe website for details on how to collect tickets.
