Channel 4 have revealed today some of the comedy shows they will be broadcasting in 2008...

Peep Show

The multi-award-winning and critically-acclaimed comedy starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb as old university pals going nowhere slowly, returns for a fifth series.

Mark (David Mitchell) is the conventional one seething with inner rages and desires. Jeremy (Robert Webb) is the loose cannon full of expressed rages and desires – but seething with even more rage on the inside.

At the end of series four Mark went through with a disastrous wedding ceremony to Sophie (Olivia Coleman), after all but jilting her at the altar. Now Mark faces the horror of having to face his estranged wife at work. Meanwhile Jeremy has a rude awakening when the money he's been subsisting on finally runs out and he's forced to try and find a new source of income. This series finds Mark and Jeremy still sharing the same flat, but both entering their 30s with failed marriages behind them, few prospects, and a sense of impending crisis. Time is running out for them to sort out their lives. Jeremy's mother appears on the scene and it soon becomes clear why he's ended up as he is; Mark goes speed dating and discovers money can buy you love; Jeremy and Superhans (Matt King) play at a Christian rock festival; the flat suffers multiple burglaries; and the boys endure their worst ever night out - at the theatre!

The Kevin Bishop Show

Starting this July is a full series of The Kevin Bishop Show, the sketch comedy that was originally piloted as part of the broadcaster's 25th Anniversary Comedy Showcase series in 2007.

Playing to Kevin's strengths as a comedy actor and superb mimic, this is a show that takes great pleasure in spoofing at breakneck speed the world of TV, film and popular culture. Each of the six episodes will offer a rollercoaster of over 40 sketches in a bid to make light of all that is called 'celebrity'.

Highlights will include Prison Break with Amy & Blake, Carry On... Hand Luggage, as well as The Nursery Rhyme Crime Squad who are looking for Little Red Riding Hood and are keen to look at Mr Wolf's computer hard drive.

Plus One

Following on from the success of last autumn's one-off Comedy Showcase pilot, Plus One has been commissioned for a full six-part series.

The series follows the mishaps of Rob "unlucky-in-love" Black. Rob is struggling to restore his self-esteem after his girlfriend Linsey left him to marry a boy-band pop star. But how do you recover from a blow like that? Having received an invitation to his ex's wedding, asking him to bring a 'plus one', Rob is on a mission to secure a beautiful girl to take to the wedding, hoping he'll be able to get his own back by outshining the happy couple.

But even Rob's family and friends – brother Rich, best mate Paul and sister Rebecca - all think that Linsey is better off with a pop star boyfriend than with Rob. Over the six episodes, with the wedding date fast approaching, Rob becomes increasingly desperate to attract a date that will restore his pride. Our 'Plus One' Guide

The Nightly Show and Comedy Lab

As part of its ongoing commitment to developing new talent on and off the screen, Channel 4 is devoting the whole month of August to newcomers, where every day at least one gifted novice will be making their TV debut.

Confirmed so far for New Talent Month is a weekday topical comedy programme, The Nightly Show, which will run over three weeks and feature a new generation of comics. Channel 4's long-running showcase for new comedy talent Comedy Lab returns too.

8 Out of 10 Cats

The hit topical comedy panel show will be returning for another series in July.

Jimmy Carr hosts proceedings as team captains, Sean Lock and Jason Manford, battle it out to discover who knows what is going on in Britain today.

There will be the usual popular rounds including What Are You Talking About? in which teams of comedians and celebrity guests dissect current news stories, from cutting-edge politics to trash TV via global issues and celebrity excesses. Plus some inventive new strands ensure the panellists are kept on their toes.
