British Press Guild Award nominees announced

The nominees for the 2008 British Press Guild Awards have been announced. The awards cover both television and radio.

Four shows have been nominated for the "Best comedy or entertainment programme" award, three of which are comedy series. These are The Armstrong and Miller Show, the Extras Christmas Special (pictured) and Gavin and Stacey. The other show nominated is Strictly Come Dancing. Extras writers Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant have been nominated jointly for "Best writer".

Meanwhile comedian Stephen Fry has been nominated twice for his documentary, HIV and Me; "Single documentary" and "Non-acting performer/presenter". Fry is up against both Jeremy Clarkson and Harry Hill for the latter award. Clarkson is nominated for his work on Top Gear and Hill for TV Burp. Top Gear is also nominated for "Best factual entertainment".

Satirical panel game The News Quiz (Radio 4), double act Adam and Joe (BBC 6 Music) and DJ Chris Moyles are all nominated for "Radio programme of the year". Humorous DJs Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie have been nominated for their Radio 2 evening programme as "Best broadcasters of the year".
