Spaced director Edgar Wright angry at US remake

When it was announced this week that cult Channel 4 sitcom Spaced is to be remade for the US, fans of the show were far from pleased. It now appears that those involved with the show are even less-so.

Director Edgar Wright - who is particularly close to creator-writer-stars Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson (now Hynes) - has revealed on his blog that he is "infuriated" by the situation, stating that neither they (nor, it appears, producer Nira Park) were so much as contacted about the deal, let alone consulted. In fact, the first they heard of it was through the press, like everyone else.

Edgar says, "I don't really want to get involved, but it infuriates me that they would a) never bother to get in touch but still b) splash me and Simon's names all over the trade announcements and imply that we're involved in the same way as Ricky and Steve were with the Office. It's worth stressing that I will not be profiting from this reversion, nor do they have to get permission from me to make it."

The US version is currently being developed by Fox, with British company and rights-owners Granada, and being headed by Adam Barr, who has been involved with writing and producing shows such as Will & Grace, Friends, and The New Adventures of Old Christine.
