A British family is to be immortalised in the form of a comedy cartoon series, in an innovative new TV comedy format.

Funny Families, which is the working title for the project, will see an ordinary British family transformed into an animated sitcom.

Producers say: "For the first time in TV history we are on the hunt for a real family to turn into a major new series. Simpsons and Family Guy step aside!"

The show is being made by Mentorn Media, a production company not particularly known for either comedy formats or animation. The group is better known for titles such as weekly current affairs debate programme Question Time and Sky's Grease: The Musical, although subsidiary Daybreak Pictures are behind the current Channel 4 comedy drama Sirens.

The company has put a casting call out for a family to take part, with the advert: "Does your family banter leave friends in stitches? Are you constantly bickering or playing pranks on each other? Could your Dad give Homer a run for his money? Could your son give Bart a lesson in mischief?
