Too many funny moments to choose one but the fire drill one where he was being very stupid, the one where they thought he'd drowned in quicksand then he turned up behind them, and "oh it's the reaper". Ha ha.

For the plots many of the episodes he's the central character, in fact you could argue he's most important character in Dad's Army and this even seemed to irk Lowe himself which he conveyed brilliantly in Mainwaring's pomposity. good old Jonesy.
