I remember back in the 80s thinking the US version of Dear John was as good as the British version - although I'm not a great fan of US sitcoms.

I looked to see if the US version had been released on DVD some time ago, but it hadn't. Just wondered if anyone knows if it has been released by now?

I'd like to give this a look. Not only is the usually reliable Judd Hirsch in the lead but some of the later epsidoes were written by John Sullivan so I read in his obit.

Ooh. Did he write new ones, or did they just use his scripts for the original?

I believe they adapted all the BBC episodes, and like American Office went their own way and then drafted John Sullivan in to write some new material.

I looked just last week, and it doesn't appear to be available on DVD anywhere.
