This just in. Peter Rogers, producer of the Carry On series, has died, aged 95.
Made such a great contribution, I'm sure most of us have seen and enjoyed these films, and probably had our view of all matters sexual tainted by them, for good or ill!

Why do the good die young?
Can't say I'm the biggest fan of Carry On films, but they've certainly made their mark in British film / comedy history.
So farewell Peter Rogers, I wish I had a witty Carry On based quote to bid you goodbye, but all I can think about is Barbara Windsor's breasts and Sid James laughing and staring at me like a jocular rapist.
Just flipped through the biography, Mr Carry On, looking for a poignantly glib epitaph, but couldn't find anything. It ends rather sadly with several deaths, while he just "carries on".
I so wanted to meet him. A great man. RIP.
If what they taught me in bible class is true then he should be able to Carry On in the next life!

A grand old age though. He was one of those people that looked like he would go on forever, but he had cancelled a few events over the past few months through illness.

Sad news. One of my earliest memories was of going to see Carry On Constable with my Mum. Very odd but true.
The Carry On canon, although hardly challenging or sophisticated, was part of the comedy landscape of those times and Peter Rogers was very much part of this iconic (what would be called in these modern times - a franchise)

I dunno. Not comparitively to films and TV shows now, but given their context, they were pushing it and treading on a bit of new ground.

Only joking, I enjoyed Carry On Screaming which was the forerunner to Young Frankenstein and the Scary Movie franchise.
Unfortunately, you can also trace the lineage to Meet the Spartans and Epic Movie.

As Aaron mentioned the Confessions films. Has anyone seen them. I haven't, but the casts look good on them. Are the films all worthy of there 18 certificates? I want to buy one, but I haven't the balls to go and buy one in HMV.
Two things from http://www.carryongold.com : First, Peter Rogers' death seems to be the death knell for Carry On London (compare with the death of Douglas Adams, which seemed to spur The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie into production). And second, a Carry On cartoon series is being produced with voice actors imitating the stars of the films.
Snips: Peter produced over 31 Carry On films between 1958 & 1992 & in recent years talked of Carry On London being the next. Sadly, this last comic caper failed to raise enough interest or investment.
'Carryoon' producer Ken Burns has paid tribute to Peter by saying "We've lost so many original Carry On stars over the years that constantly dilute the chance of another future Carry On comedy being produced, & now without Mr Carry On at the helm, I think its time to call it a day". Ken Burns is currently producing an animated Carry On spin-off entitled, The Carryoons. It features a host of vocal impressionists bringing Sid, Kenny, Hattie, Charlie & the rest of the team back to life in a brand new series of cartoon adventures. Peter loved this project, so we hope to make the Governor proud, says Burns.

Yes. You can buy all four of them on Amazon for 10 pounds. They were great when I was in my early teens. Don't feel embarrassed to buy them, as they are hardly classifiable as porn. Some people might argue they also hardly classifiable as comedy.
They've been trying to get those Carryoons going for longer than a new film. Joan Sims turned down the chance to do her own voice in them on the advice of her agent. MinorTrufax.

I have. They're pretty bad. Not really worthy of the certificate; now they'd probably get a 15, maybe 12. Don't even consider buying one at high street prices.
I got to meet Peter Rogers four times. Twice in the toilets at Pinewood Studios (but that's another story). Although very pleasant at times, he wouldn't hold back if he had something to say whether to your liking or not. But, he did create the longest running series of films in British Comedy history and I for one thank him for that. RIP Mr Rogers.
